The NEW Portland Public Library
Â
The renovations to the Portland Public Library have transformed it from a tradition lending library to an exciting, resource rich community center.
The formerly dark and foreboding streetscape and entrance ramp have been completely reconfigured to bring the most public functions of the library right to the sidewalk, overlooking Monument Square. Enclosed by a thirty foot high curtainwall, the new space is open and inviting.  Three floors are joined to the entrance atrium by new open staircases, providing greater connectivity and visual "reading" of the library space.  Our hope is that the new library will become a more active participant in the cultural life of the City, a place where people will go to meet a friend, meet with a group, read, do research, and become more actively involved in the life of our community.
